Northstar was engaged by Harvard University Housing to oversee the master planning, design, and construction of a multi-year phased renovation of Soldiers Field Park, a 500-unit residential complex located in the heart of Harvard’s emerging Allston district. The project entails a complete interior and exterior renewal of the complex originally designed by Benjamin Thompson and completed in 1974. Project elements include LEED Gold certification, fully updated life safety systems, reconfiguration of unit layouts reflective of market trends, and development of over 15,000 sf of resident amenity space including a fitness center, lounge, and conference / meeting spaces. The project will serve to re-position the complex to satisfy the expectations of contemporary residents and compete more effectively in Boston’s growing housing market. Northstar has been charged with project programming including integration across University stakeholder groups, construction sequencing and logistics coordination, budget management, and design and construction oversight.
