This state-of-the-art campus at Cambridge Crossing consolidates multiple research + development labs and administrative functions, creating One Sanofi.
The project embodied Sanofi’s mission as a leader in life sciences and to support the diverse ways its community works. The two-building campus has one building for administrative staff across ten floors with five levels of below-grade parking and the other building housing 12 floors of laboratory space with shared centers of excellence for sample management, consumables, and chemicals. All labs satisfy BSL2 requirements. The project also includes a 35,000 square foot cutting edge vivarium which was described as ‘exemplary’ by the operations team and the accrediting body AAALAC. Together the buildings accommodate 2,700 employees and achieved LEED Gold V4 certifications.
Before programming the design, Sanofi NA hired Northstar to oversee design development, tenant-landlord communications, and construction administration. To accommodate an aggressive schedule, tenant work began immediately after the base buildings were weather tight. The buildings are across the Cambridge-Boston line and required both municipalities’ permits, compliance, and sign-off.
Northstar’s successful integration of Sanofi’s internal stakeholders into the design and construction process at Cambridge Crossing resulted in expanded owner’s project management services across Sanofi’s New England facilities. Northstar now oversees annual capital improvement initiatives spanning from critical equipment replacements to implementing its “Activity Based Work” environment at numerous sites.
