The Skating Club of Boston Opens
March 2021
Northstar is proud to have been an integral member of a highly collaborative team that delivered The Skating Club of Boston a new, state-of-the-art, three-rink training facility and performance center.
Located in Norwood, MA the new facility redefines figure skating in New England. The facility contains a 2,500-seat performance center with an Olympic-size ice sheet, an overhead Daktronics display, and a BOSE ArenaMatch sound system. The facility also includes two NHL-size ice sheets with a combined seating of 1,900, a dance studio, a branch of The Micheli Center for Sports Injury Prevention, as well as other member amenity spaces.
Challenges to the project included the design and construction of specialty ice rink infrastructure as well as navigating the COVID-19 pandemic during the last months of construction. In spite of the project’s challenges, Northstar’s team of Tom Fanning, Dan Govoni, and Jessy Lecaj were able to lead the project to a successful, on-budget completion and turn-over to a satisfied client. The now operating facility is considered one of the best figure skating training facilities in the world.
The team associated with the project consisted of:
Owner’s Representative: Northstar Project & Real Estate Services
Architect: Studio Troika
MEP Engineer: AHA Consulting Engineering
Civil Engineers: Tetra Tech
Geotechnical Engineer: Haley & Aldrich
