Celebrating 10 Years of Leadership: Steven Smith’s Journey at Northstar

Northstar is proud to celebrate Steven Smith’s 10th anniversary at Northstar.
With over 35 years of experience in owner’s project management, Steven specializes in overseeing major capital programs and projects. His expertise spans interior core and shell TI construction, occupied renovations and restacks, LEED and Fitwell certifications, and infrastructure and technology upgrades. Steven’s comprehensive knowledge of project delivery makes him a leader in every phase of a project, from feasibility and programming through design and construction to occupancy and closeout.
Steven has been instrumental in delivering successful projects for several notable Northstar clients, including Akamai Technologies, Takeda Pharmaceutical, Analog Devices, and MITRE Corporation. For Oxford Properties, Steven converted a 42,000 SF garage level at the base of One Memorial Drive, Cambridge, into Class A office core and shell space, which included replacing the solid exterior granite façade with full-height glass curtainwall and cutting open the elevator shafts to create a new floor entrance and elevator lobby.
His impact goes beyond project management, as he plays an active role in numerous Northstar committees and strategic initiatives. One of his most rewarding experiences over the past decade has been mentoring younger associates within Northstar and through CoreNet’s CREST program. He takes great pride in being a resource to seasoned colleagues and new team members as they transition into new roles. In addition to his work at Northstar, Steven is deeply involved in the Boston real estate community and is committed to the values of CoreNet New England. He participates in CoreNet’s Leadership 2.0 Program and serves on its Career Strategies & Development Committee.
For Steven, success has always been about relationships and the teams he builds. Whether working with internal staff, clients, or external vendors, he thrives on guiding project teams to success, mitigating challenges and risks, and celebrating the many individual and collective achievements. Leading teams across the finish line is his greatest joy, and he takes immense pride in knowing the team has done its best and is proud of its collective results.
Outside his owner’s project management role, Steven enjoys researching his family ancestry, reading mysteries and thrillers, and spending quality time with his family and dogs.
