Biopharmaceutical Research Center Achieved LEED Gold Certification
May 2019
Northstar’s recently completed project for a local biopharmaceutical company in Cambridge officially achieved Gold certification under LEED 2009 Commercial Interiors.
The 200,000 square foot research center included an animal care facility, conferencing suite, high density freezer storage, and equipment repair workshop.
Located in the heart of Kendall Square in Cambridge, the project maxed out the number of points available in the Sustainable Site category. However, particularly more challenging in a research facility, the project also came through strongly in the Energy and Atmosphere credits with its efficient design, the use of a plate and frame heat exchanger with condenser water bypass to allow for “free cooling” during the shoulder seasons, and state of the art air handling equipment.
Special thanks goes to TRIA, BR+A, Lee Kennedy Co. and Resilient Buildings Group.
