Northstar Volunteers at South Shore Habitat for Humanity

October 2021

Northstar Employees recently participated in a build day for South Shore Habitat for Humanity.

Founded in Norwell in 1986 as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, South Shore Habitat serves 32 cities and towns south and southwest of Boston. Due to COVID restrictions, the build day was split into 2 shifts with smaller groups. On build day one, the first group spent time forming up the front stairs for their future concrete landing, shingling the small rear roof, framing walls and adding blocking into the walls. Team one also assisted in installing the Habitat for Humanity sign out front.

Build day two started with some dreary weather but that didn’t dampen the spirits of group two more than the rain itself! Group two spent most of their time continuing to add blocking into the new home’s walls for hanging shelving and precious family photos, and performed some cut and fill work to level the landscape for the new driveway. After crushing rock with a jackhammer to free up some driveway space, the team was able to build a retaining wall with the native rocks they just pulverized. We’re grateful to have had the opportunity to get involved and give back to the community!
